Potential Ballot Measure Could Provide $24.5 Billion in Funding
After extensive public outreach and data analysis, MTS released two draft scenarios for a potential funding measure on the November 2020 ballot. Both scenarios were presented to the Board of Directors at the December 2019 Board meeting, and assume a 1/2 cent sales tax within the MTS service territory over 50 years.
Both scenarios include major upgrades to the frequency and span on existing services, extend the Trolley to the San Diego Airport, expand the Rapid bus network, offer free passes to youth 18 & under, offer community grants to cities, provide new service to major job centers and more.
The MTS Board of Directors will provide further direction to staff in January 2020, at which point MTS will conduct public outreach to gain further feedback on the draft project list. A final project list is expected to go before the Board in April 2020 for a decision to go on the November 2020 ballot.
