Let’s face it – regular transit services don’t always make sense in the suburban sprawl of San Diego’s neighborhoods. Yet there still remains a need for transportation service. Whether its helping seniors with day-to-day activities, getting students to school or having more flexible transportation options, on-demand transit service can be flexible and dynamic to meet the needs of neighborhood cores.
With Elevate SD, we have the opportunity to help transit become more flexible and dynamic to serve harder-to-reach locations. MTS on-demand service could preserve access to transit in low-density neighborhoods by allowing passengers to book trips in advance, or on a subscription basis.
Benefits of on-demand transit services could include:
Book your trip through an app or over the phone (similar to a rideshare company or taxi)
Short, fast trips
Single trips or carpool options
Utilize smaller vehicles that fit into neighborhoods
Reduce neighborhood traffic
Reduce emission from vehicles
Possible Elevate SD On-Demand Neighborhoods Include:
- Carmel Valley
- Otay Mesa
- Scripps Ranch
- Rancho Bernardo
